Through her passion for exploring the intersection of science and global impact, Mélanie Marcel has become a national leader and a recognized expert on Responsible Research and Innovation. Her work at the forefront of human-machines interfaces at NTT Basic Research Laboratories and at the Brain & Spine Institute (ICM) led her to reflect on the impact of science and innovation on society. In 2014, Mélanie created SoScience, a start-up specialized in Responsible Innovation and Research to use innovation&science to answer societal challenges. Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is a R&D approach including the social and environmental impacts all along the innovation process and making these impacts its first goal.
She is an expert for the European Commission evaluating its research policy since 2016. Mélanie published her first book on Responsible Research and Innovation in 2017, she is an Echoing Green Fellow (2017), Ashoka Fellow (2018), won the 2018 Grinnell College Innovator for Social Justice Prize.
